23/04/2026

On the sidelines of the ICAO Global Implementation Support Symposium 2026 (GISS-2026) in Marrakesh, Morocco, Chairman of the Civil Aviation Committee of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Saltanat Tompiyeva, held a meeting with Nicholas Robinson, Associate Assistant Deputy Minister for Aviation Security and Safety at Transport Canada.

The meeting was also attended by the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to ICAO, Timur Tlegenov; the Permanent Representative of Canada to ICAO, Karine Asselin; and the Executive Director for International Aviation at Transport Canada, John Vellieux.

The parties discussed cooperation in the field of civil aviation, including flight safety, aviation security, and the exchange of best practices.

“The aviation sector in Kazakhstan is of strategic importance, given the country’s geographic characteristics as one of the largest landlocked states in the world. Under these conditions, civil aviation plays a key role in ensuring transport connectivity and economic development,” noted S. Tompieva.

During the meeting, it was also highlighted that passenger traffic in the Republic of Kazakhstan increased by 80% in 2025 compared to pre-pandemic levels, along with a high level of compliance with International Civil Aviation Organization standards—82% in flight safety and 95.7% in aviation security.

The parties confirmed their interest in further developing partnership and strengthening cooperation in the areas of safety and sustainable development of aviation.
